BELLEVIEW, AUGUST 26, 2010
– Congressman Stearns violates House Ethics by funneling money from the
Department of Defense to the for-profit Grantham University, of which Stearns is
an owner.
Steve Schonberg, NPA Candidate for U.S. House seat FL-06, has made an inquiry to
Grantham University Inc., an online, for-profit university, largely supported by
the Department of Defense. Congressman Cliff Stearns admitted to ownership of
common stock in the for-profit company on his most recent House Financial
Disclosure report.
Schonberg contends that “when Stearns votes for the budget for the Department of
Defense, the legislation funnels money to Grantham University Inc., which is
owned by its shareholders, including Stearns.” Schonberg sent a copy of
the letter to Stearns, which asks Stearns “to determine if he has had a
longstanding conflict of interest…”
If so, Schonberg believes Stearns should voluntarily report himself to the House
Ethics Committee and immediately resign from Congress. “Resignation in the
face of such a cheesy scam is an easy call,” Schonberg claims.
